After the Roman conquest of the Balkans in the last centuries of the old era and several centuries of the new era, mineral water was used for drinking and bathing, as evidenced by a Roman spring found during the capture of Vrnja\u010dka Banja hot mineral water in 1924 and numerous coins depicting Roman emperors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rimski-izvor.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-574\" width=\"831\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rimski-izvor.jpg 950w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rimski-izvor-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rimski-izvor-768x483.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 831px) 100vw, 831px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is probable that the newly settled Slavs in the Middle Ages also knew about the healing properties of the Vrnja\u010dka Banja waters. Following the Turkish conquest of the Balkans, there is almost no data on Vrnja\u010dka Banja mineral water use, except in a few untrustworthy legends saying that the Turks learned about the healing properties of water at the end of their rule and used it as such.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"859\" height=\"550\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/11535921_102734936735927_1749326648288448214_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3014\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/11535921_102734936735927_1749326648288448214_n.jpg 859w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/11535921_102734936735927_1749326648288448214_n-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/11535921_102734936735927_1749326648288448214_n-768x492.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 859px) 100vw, 859px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the liberation from the Turks in the early 19th century, Prince Milo\u0161 hired Saxon geologist Baron Herder to investigate the mineral springs in Serbia, including Vrnja\u010dka Banja hot mineral water. There are reliable data that the inhabitants of the village of Vrnjci and its surroundings used hot mineral water for healing in the mid-19th century; Janja Bishop of Zi\u010da also used it for bathing and drinking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the history of the modern Spa in Vrnjci dates back to 1868, when Kru\u0161evac district mayor Pavle Mutavd\u017ei\u0107, along with several benefactors and prominent people from Kru\u0161evac, Karavnovac (Kraljevo), and Trstenik established the Foundation Society of Sour and Hot Water in Vrnjci. That same year, two hot mineral water springs were captured, and the construction of spa facilities, primarily baths, began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"500\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/pavle-mutavdzic-cropp.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/pavle-mutavdzic-cropp.jpg 400w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/pavle-mutavdzic-cropp-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The first season of the following year, 1869, confirmed the justification of founding such a society and the perspective of a new spa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Park-sa-kupatilom-1937-1024x645.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-578\" width=\"851\" height=\"536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Park-sa-kupatilom-1937-1024x645.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Park-sa-kupatilom-1937-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Park-sa-kupatilom-1937-768x483.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Park-sa-kupatilom-1937.jpg 1455w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 851px) 100vw, 851px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After several years of stagnation due to a lack of funds for the construction and authorities&#8217; care, in the eighties, when the Spa in Vrnjci became state-owned, and especially after the construction of the villa of General Jovan Belimarkovi\u0107, Deputy of King Alexander Obrenovi\u010d, Vrnja\u010dka Banja began to develop into a modern spa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/CamScanner-11-19-2020-09.01_1-1024x746.jpg\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is CamScanner-11-19-2020-09.01_1-1024x746.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/11088543_102739130068841_836857199832326516_n.jpg\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 11088543_102739130068841_836857199832326516_n.jpg\" width=\"836\" height=\"529\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1885, the Kosta Petrovi\u0107-Rakica National Inn began operating as a real restaurant. Banja experienced a heyday in the years before the Balkan wars. It then got many modern boarding houses, a new bath, one operating and one planned cinema. Before the wars, the Stala\u0107-Po\u017eega railway was constructed to pass by Vrnja\u010dka Banja, so the Spa got good traffic connections with most major cities in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"662\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Razglednica-019-1024x662.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2906\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Razglednica-019-1024x662.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Razglednica-019-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Razglednica-019-768x497.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Razglednica-019.jpg 1109w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vrnja\u010dka Banja experienced stagnation during the wars of 1912\/18. In 1915, several allied hospitals were accommodated in spa boarding houses and resorts. After World War I, there was a sharp rise, peaking in the late 1930s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The zest did not wane even in the years of economic crisis when modern villas, sanatoriums (Sv. \u0110or\u0111e, \u017divadinovi\u0107), and a modern bath were built, a large hot mineral spring was captured in 1924\/25, the Vrnja\u010dka river was arranged, parks were expanded and landscaped, roads were built, and the water supply and sewerage network was expanded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"616\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Reka-1911.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2908\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Reka-1911.jpg 976w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Reka-1911-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Reka-1911-768x485.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the 1933 census, there were 133 craft and trade shops in Vrnja\u010dka Banja. Cultural life flourished as well &#8211; fairs, concerts of classical music, and performances of renowned guest theater groups were organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/istorija3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1716\" width=\"841\" height=\"651\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/istorija3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/istorija3-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/istorija3-768x594.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 841px) 100vw, 841px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;Go\u010d&#8221; Tourist Association was founded, and after the adoption of the Law on Spas, boarding houses and villas were strictly categorized. According to the 1935 census, there were 257 of them. That year the Spa had 28,080 visitors, far more than any other tourist destination in Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/banjaaa.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3023\" width=\"840\" height=\"538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/banjaaa.jpg 800w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/banjaaa-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vrnjackabanja.co.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/banjaaa-768x492.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After World War II, the guest structure changed: the state sent patients for treatment, the service level dropped, and many exclusive spa facilities were no longer in operation.
